I Went to MFF 2025!

I went to Midwest Furfest last week! Rode a bus for REDACTED hours up to Chicago to go with my friends and had a blast! Planned to write a blog post once I was home buuuuut I got a cold while traveling -w- and that took me out for ANOTHER week. More or less. Anyways, I'm good now, so time to write!

First day I didn't go to the event, for a variety of reasons. I did get taken around Chicago a bit; mainly, I got to go to a particular art store I always heard my friends sing praise of. Got some grey water based brush pens while there and a crochet starter kit. At this point I haven't gotten to try crochet, but I have played with the brush pens a lot! When I work in physical mediums, I like doing grey-scale ink stuff. So having two shades of grey is perfect for it. I also watched a "trashy" anime with my friends. Honestly incredible experience.

Second was mostly spent in the artist alley. I then got to go to two different panels. One was on a showcase of some different furry fiction (all adult-rated; missed the general-rated showcase). Ended up buying some of the books mentioned too B) so now I'm reading The Dry Spell by Ryan Loup-Glissant. After that was a writing workshop that was a little underwhelming but which I got some good notes from. I think this was also the day we watxhed YouTube on the TV once home, namely a video that went over some bizzare/horrifying fact over every US state. And I got to force my friends to learn something horrifying about my home state. May have been day three though I forget.

Third day was the dragon meet-and-greet, which is what I was most excited for. Unfortunately, due to the room being over-filled and a general lack of direction, it ended up very unpleasant and I left early :( after that, however, was the BEST panel. It was ultimately about how to comfortably and confidently write 18+ commissioned works featuring stuff you may not be into yourself (but that doesn't necessarily make you uncomfortable, either). However, it was also just a really good panel on kink and sexuality period. 10/10.

... Yeah I wanted to go to, like, all the writing panels. But we kept sleeping in so the only ones I went to were the night ones. So adult ones LMAO. I am perfectly fine with this; it's just funny looking back at my notes and realizing this happened.

Final day I started at the dealer's den and spent too much money. We also went into the adult section; this is good for the soul. I am a genuine believer that sex and kink research makes you a better person but that is perhaps a rant for another day. Only panel I went to was a little game show type thing at the end of the night. Between the two I got to just sit down and watch people in fursuits walk by... It was very nice.

It was only my second convention ever. So it was overwhelming in a lot of ways. But it was also so so fun!!!! I didn't suit up for the event as I don't have a suit. Just ears and a tail that don't resemble Grub even remotely. Dressing up was still very enjoyable though, and I'm overall very glad that I went!!! Hopefully I'll get to go next year, or to another furry con between now and then :D
